The Ukrainian ecological NGOs Mama 86, Ecoclub Rivne and Golos Prirody criticize the Ukrainian governmental energy strategy 2030.

On a press conference in Kiyv, the Ukrainian ecological NGOs Mama 86, Ecoclub Rivne and Golos Prirody have critisized the Ukrainian governmental energy strategy 2030. The strategy has been adopted as a consequence of the gas crisis with the Russian Ferderation in winter 2005 and foresees the construction of 22 new nuclear power plants until 2030 in Ukraine. According to this strategy nuclear energy is assessed to be the only alternative to the energy dependence of Russia. Ecological NGOs and independent experts critisize that the need in energy is estimated much too high in the official energy strategy and that a siginificant part of the planned plants' output would be destinated to energy export. The NGOs have presented an alternative report on non-nuclear energetic development of Ukraine. www.ecoclub.ukrwest.net www.ecoclub.ukrwest.net
