Ukraine: EU encourages social sector legislation

EU project "Strengthening civil society" contributes to social sector related legislation in Ukraine

di Stefanie Schiffer

An expert group consisting of members of the Ukrainian Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports, of different NGOs and the School of social work at the Kyiv Mohyla Academy, was brought together by the EU Project ?Strengthening Civil Society? in June in Kiyv. The agenda of the experts group is to contribute to social sector related legislation ? namely to the laws on a volunteer movement, on third sector related budget policy and on the regulations of community foundations. Following the recommendations of the President of Ukraine who has recently vetoed the Law on Volunteer movement, a new concept of volunteer activity was presented. This concept is made available for public and charity organisations, social service institutions and local authorities. It tackles issues as social protection of volunteers, age of volunteers and acknowledgement of volunteer working records. Recommendations on a new law on community foundations are to be expected in the coming months.
