UK: replicating renewable energy
A new initiative to help communities develop renewable energy schemes has been launched in the North East of England
The Community Renewable Energy (CoRE) project is part of the INSPIRE social enterprise developing programme run by the North East Social Enterprise Partnership, which is funded by the European Social Fund and regional development agency One North East. It aims to work with communities in the region to help them establish energy schemes ranging from wind turbines to diesel generators that will provide low-cost sustainable energy and generate income for the communities they serve. Profits from any energy schemes set up as part of the project will also be used to replicate successes and set up more community-owned renewable energy schemes. www.nesep.co.uk
