UK: NGOs get £20m more from DfID

The Department for International Development has announced £20m (approximately 25 million euos) in extra funding for NGOs.
The Governance and Transparency Fund, set up to help citizens hold their governments and other bodies to account, will receive an additional £10m (approx 13 million euros), bringing its total value to £130m (165 million euros) over five years. The fund is open to a range of not-for-profit organisations, including those registered outside the UK. Each organisation can apply only once.
There will be an additional £10m over three years for the Civil Society Challenge Fund, DfID?s fund for small and medium-sized UK-based civil society organisations, raising its value to £20m a year by 2010/11.
Douglas Alexander, Secretary of State for International Development, said: ?This new funding is a clear signal of our commitment to support the vital work that NGOs and charities do across the world, helping to make real difference to the lives of millions blighted by poverty.?
