Leading co-operative wholefood business, Infinity Foods, has won the Best Local Retailer award in this year?s Observer Ethical Awards.

The Brighton based worker co-operative won the award for its shop which stocks a huge range of fair trade and ethical produce. The award was sponsored by The Ecologist and was voted for by readers of the Observer newspaper.

?We?re delighted to have been voted best local retailer,? says Scott Muir of Infinity Foods. ?We?ve been committed to offering high quality, fair trade and organic products for many years and it?s fantastic that members of the public have recognised what we do.?

The winners of the second Observer Ethical Awards, supported by Ecover, were announced at a ceremony at The Hospital club in London.

All of the winners demonstrated a clear understanding and commitment to increasing environmental and social justice and were subsequently featured in a special ethical issue of Observer magazine.

?Co-operatives are leading the way when it comes to ethical retailing, and it is a great achievement for Infinity Foods to win this award,? says Dame Pauline Green, Chief Executive of Co-operativesUK, the organisation which represents co-operatives in the UK.
