A new project has been launched in Wales to raise funds for Darfur and increase awareness of the area?s plight.

The project, called Arts Call for Darfur, aims to achieve this by selling work donated by local artists. It has been launched by a movement of artists and activists situated across Wales that want to encourage the general public to become more involved in human rights issues.

Arts Call for Darfur is being supported by Butetwon History & Arts Centre which has invited 20 local artists to donate original pieces of work to the project which it will then display at a month-long exhibition commencing on 14 December 2007. Limited edition prints of the donated work, signed by the artists, will then be sold to the public to raise money which will be distributed as follows:

?30% will go to the artists, to encourage their involvement with the project and to support sustainability of Welsh artists

?30% will go directly to the Save the Children charity to enable it to continue its projects with children in Darfur

?30% will be re-invested in the Darfur project to enable the centre in producing similar exhibitions and merchandise to sell as part of the project to create more revenue for Darfur

?10% will go to organise a travelling exhibition over the next year to involve other Welsh artists.
