Capacitybuilders, the UK government organisation responsible for improving capacity in the voluntary sector, has launched the new three year investment programme which aims to support strategic change and modernisation at local and regional level.

The £30 million (41.5 milion euro) fund for 2008-11, which will start in April 2008, has two main branches:
£12m (16.6 m euro) will be given in consortium development grants to local and regional consortia,
£18m (25m euro) will fund modernisation project, to help a step change in the way in which third sector support services are delivered locally and regionally.

The consortium development grants focus on the strategic role for consortia, and in particular, aim to make links with public sector decision makers at a local level.
The programme is only open to local and regional consortia and will focus particularly on projects aiming to modernize the frontline sector services.

Resources, more limited than in previous years, will allow Capacitybuilders to be only able to support a limited number of projects in each region.
