Travelling is the best way to grow

Internship to do good: read Emanuele’s story

di Cristina Barbetta

Emanuele Noventa, 25, is a member of AIESEC – the world’s largest student driven organization. Last year he joined an AIESEC international internship.

– What are you studying and where? I just graduated in statistics at the university of Padua, Italy.

– What kind of internship did you choose and why? I chose a technical traineeship, but the reason why I chose it is that I wanted to work in Brazil and also that I wanted to work in the field of social business, because it means working to improve people’s life and not only for money.

Where exactly in Brazil did you go? I was in Sorocaba, near São Paulo.

-How long did your internship last? Six months.

– Five things you learnt during the internship? I learnt that many material things are not necessary, that people are not so different from one country to another, that it is much better to work for a cause and not only for money, that without friends you are lost even in the best city of the world, and that travelling is the best way to grow and discover yourself.

– Why did you choose to go to Brazil? Because of the social business programme, because AIESEC was strong there, because I knew the country had a growing economy, and also because I knew that people in Brazil are more happy and relaxed.

– What was the best moment of your experience? When I went to AIESEC national conference, because I met 500 people all working for the same cause.

– Would you change your experience in any way? I  would only change the first part, when I had to change accommodation many times because of lack of organization and I couldn’t enjoy my experience as I wished.

– Any suggestions for students who are about to leave on an AIESEC internship? Don’t think that AIESEC is just an exchange programme: instead, also enjoy activities in the host committee. I did it and that helped me grow a lot.
