– Where are you based? In Odessa, Ukraine.

– What are you called? The Way Home Humanitarian Fund.

– What are you doing and why? We work to improve the living conditions for street children and homeless people in Odessa. In addition we run an extensive HIV/AIDS prevention program among drug users in Odessa and in the Odessa region.

– What makes you so special? We are working very closely with all our target groups, and many of our employees are people who have overcome similar problems, so they know first-hand how to deal with the issues the people we meet are facing.

 

The turning point

– How did you start? The Way Home was founded in 1996. At that time there were only 3 people working in the foundation. Today we are 80 full time employees and about 40 volunteers.

– What keeps you going every day? The wish to do more for people who need help in Odessa.

– Who is your target? Street children, homeless and drug users.

How are you financed? Partly through grants from a variety of sources, and partly through contributions from individuals all over the world.

 

The challenge

– A proud moment? When the Ukranian Parliament adopted our model for helping homeless people without documents and turned our concept into law.

– A problem you face? Finding new sources for funding The Way Home.

– Your personal motto when things get hard? Let’s move, standing still doesn’t solve any problem.
