The next European Green Capital? It could be your city

A contest to reward the most environmental-friendly cities in Europe

Did you enjoy your bike ride home today?  Are you extremely satisfied with the organic pumpkin you bought at the farmers’ market around the corner?  Do you think your city has the best public transportation system in Europe? Well then, you have few more weeks to present your city as the next European Green Capital for 2014.

The award aims at rewarding cities that have achieved ambitious environmental objectives, that have committed themselves to environmental improvement and sustainable development and that have inspired other cities through the promotion of best practices and experiences.

Entries are assessed based on 12 indicators including transport, green areas, noise, waste, air, water consumption, eco-innovation, and energy performance. 

Stockolm, Hambug, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Nantes have been awarded up to now. If you want your city to be the next submit you application by Fridat 14 October 2011. The 2014 award-winning city will be announced in June 2012.
