Travelling more is certainly among one of the most popular new year resolutions. But what if quantity were not the main issue? Paying attention to the quality of one’s travel and choosing a just and responsible format may be more to the point. As Spanish website, www.terrasakra.es helps to highlight. Sustainable development, carbon footprinting and healthy holidays are among the themes proposed by Terra Sakra, a virtual platform that helps you plan your trips sustainably.
”We want to contribute towards developing a new form of tourism based on a deep respect for the Earth as well as contributing to enhancing people’s awareness of the impact of tourism. We aim to foment a culture of respect for nature and for cultural diversity. We believe that this respect for both aspects is strictly linked to the first meaning of travelling, that is tied to discovery, exploration, passion for knowledge and learning. We want to achieve all this by giving informed advice, facilitating truthful information and developing sustainable proposals to tourists through our platform,” explains Terra Sakra.
The team behind the project is a group of people with experience in the tourist industry and who specialise in tourist mediation. They are also skilled in the application of sustainability to tourism and they truly believe “that the future of tourism is in the sustainable and responsible use of it. We have then to keep on working on this issue to innovate the concept of travelling.”
Terra sakra offers many services for civic and cultural centres, associations and NGOs, such as workshops, seminars and conferences in order to educate, advice and make tourists aware of eco-tourism, rural tourism, and sustainable one.
“Supporting a sustainable tourism does not converting all kinds of tourism into eco-tourism or green tourism. There will always be tourists who want to visit big cities. It is up to the tourist industry to use its tools and knowledge to extend sustainable development through the use of new technologies, changing the social approach to nature, by promoting the creation of new environmental laws, by encouraging corporate environmental management and sustainable planning developments”.
Terra Sakra’s website offers ideas and advice that help choose forms of tourism that respect nature and local populations and low polluting transport modes.
