The Spanish Government has finally passed the Royal Decree on renewable energies. It aims to provide an incentive for the least developed renewable energies so that they can attain the objectives of the 2005-2010 Plan for Renewable Energies as well as Spain's commitments to the EU. Through this Royal Decree it is expected that renewable energy will cover 12% of the energetic consumption in Spain by 2010.

This Decree also aims to give a definite impulse to co-generation as a tool for energy saving in order to comply with the objectives of the Kyoto protocol, as Spain is in the lowest position in the EU.
