Renzi: EU Third Sector summit to be held in Milan next fall

During a meeting with the Italian Third Sector protagonists Italian Prime Minister announces that a European third sector summit will be held in Milan during the Italian EU presidency

“The third sector is actually the first and most important sector in Italy”, this is how Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi introduced the discussion on his third sector reform proposal, which took place in the newsroom of Vita, in Milan, on Tuesday morning. A strong statement which underlines the special attention that this government has been paying to the Italian social economy.

The Prime Minister decided to meet the executives of the most important Italian organizations which are part of Vita editorial committee to receive a direct feedback on his third sector reform proposal. The need for new international adoption policies and the creation of a new law for social enterprises were among the most pressing issues discussed during the meeting.

The proposal will be discussed by the Council of Ministers on 27 June but according to the Prime Minister, the government’s commitment to unlock the third sector potential will continue after that date. “Our work will not stop on 27 June. “ He said, “With your help we intend to achieve further goals”. According to Matteo Renzi in fact the reform of the third sector policies is closely related to the economic development strategy of the country.

Renzi also announced that a European third sector summit will be held in Milan between October and November 2014, during the Italian semester. According to the Prime Minister in fact, Italy’s EU presidency will be a chance that cannot be missed to discuss the pivotal role of social economy at a European level and to share the country’s best practices.
