This Friday, May 8th, the Open Estonia Foundation (OEF) and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Estonia celebrate the NGO Fund Day with a festive ceremony where 39 Estonian civil society organizations sign grant contracts with the fund.
The event, organized in the framework of the Norwegian week in Tallinn, will be opened by the Norwegian Ambassador Stein Vegard Hagen and OEF‘s Executive Director Mall Hellam.
The fund was established in 2007 to mediate grants from the Norwegian and EEA Financial Mechanisms to Estonian non-profit organizations with the aim to reduce the economic and social disparities in Estonia. According to the NGO Fund‘s coordinator Maris Jõgeva the fund’s support helps NGOs take a more active role in very different fields, starting from developing small community movements and local creative economy to raising socially active youth and providing better legal advice.
To the present day, the NGO Fund has distributed grants to 125 projects from all around Estonia in the total amount of 26.5 million EEK (approximately 1.7 million €). From 2007 to 2011 the Norwegian and EEA Financial Mechanisms will support the Estonian civil society with more than 38 million EEK (about 2.4 million €). The Fund is coordinated by the Open Estonia Foundation.
