Migration: blessing or curse?
Tilburg, the Netherlands, will host the symposium on migration in November 27.

In today’s globalized world, special attention is paid to the need for the free movement of goods, services, and capital. Yet the concept of free movement of people remains a taboo. The impact of migration is definitely a controversial and widely debated topic.
The main focus of the symposium will revolve around the theme “Migration: Blessing or Curse?” This question touches upon the personal side of the issue, i.e., how migrants view their past, present and future as they face the challenge to balance among legal, social and economic interests.
In addition, important questions to be tackled include:
– What are the economic reasons for increasing worldwide migration?
– What is the contribution of international migration to the millennium goals for worldwide development?
– How does this affect both the old and the new country of residence of the migrant?
– How can the negative results of migration be mitigated?
The event is organized by Student Association Piri (Tilburg University), Studium Generale (Tilburg University), and the International Organization for Migration.
