Towards a European agenda for social housing
Social housing is at the intersection of social, environmental and economic concerns. For this reason it is affected by the various policies developed by the EU in these areas.
The EU now has a medium-term political strategy: the Europe 2020 Strategy. Consequently, economic, social and environmental policies and their impact on social housing must be seen in relation to this new framework, whose targets and flagship initiatives are intended to channel the efforts of Member States and the Commission into reaching its objectives.

How innovative is your region?
Why are some regions more successful in promoting innovation than others? How do EU regions perform vis-à-vis their OECD counterparts? How to design innovation strategies which are tailored to the regional context? What role can EU support play in supporting regional innovation? The OECD and the Regional Policy DG of the European Commission will present a new report, which answers these questions and provides guidance on the design and management of regional innovation strategies.

Speak Up! Conference on Freedom of Expression and Media in the Western Balkans and Turkey
The European Commission’s latest annual strategy on EU enlargement, highlighted in particular freedom of expression and media as one of the most important remaining challenges facing enlargement countries. In the past few months, freedom of expression has become all the more topical, with several new incidents reported. The European Commission invites journalists, media analysts, authorities and experts from international, regional and national freedom of expression organisations to debate the situation, look for solutions and promote best practices.

Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities
This workshop is organized by the Madariaga – College of Europe Foundation (MCF) and the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA). The event is part of the programme “Building coherence, skills and synergies in conflict prevention”, organized jointly by MCF and FBA to reinforce cooperation and to evolve a closer interaction between representatives of the international community towards more concrete dialogue on conflict prevention. The workshop is organised with the support of the Hungarian Presidency of the European Union.

Start-up Conference – The European Social Innovation Index Project
The European Social Innovation Index project will be focusing on Big society as a framework for change: patterns, best practices and scale-up mechanisms. Francesco Grillo (Vision) and Asheem Singh (ResPublica) will present the project, which will be followed by the round table discussion ‘UK, US and Italy, different paths towards “Big Society”’, chaired by Bill Emmott (writer and former editor of ‘The Economist’). Speakers will include Jessica Asato (Vice-Chair of the Fabian Society and former Acting Director of Progress) and Linda Lanzillotta (Member of Italian Parliament and former Minister for Devolution).
