Dear PM,
On Saturday I was in a train from Milan to Bologna to see my family. I had made a mistake and bought a ticket for Friday. The inspector, a young lady, spotted the mistake and – I guess – realized it was not a trick.
That must have been new since Italians always come out with excuses to avoid a payment. I didn’t but recognize my mistake and offered to pay.
She had to make me pay for a new ticket + a fee. Lucky enough her machine for credit card payments didn’t work properly and the transaction was cancelled.
Only after she left I realized she managed to sabotage the machine. She had a professional but a stronger sense of justice took over. It’s an ordinary story recalling the tragedy of Antigone.
To me was an epiphanic moment exemplifying the best Italian values: sense of justice beyond law, and creativity to overcome daily failures of the system.
What are you doing to enhance them?
I will make my contribution. Euclid is organising its second social innovation competition for Naples, the symbol of State and Market failure.
Social innovators from across the world will be called to provide inovative solutions to 6 challnges identified by representatives of Naples territory: collective intelligence to solve local problems. It’s globaslization up side down.
I was in Milan to persuade Intesa, Prossima, Unicredit and Telecom to collaborate supporting the initative. Multistakeholder partnership is a key of success.
Let’s see if we succeeed in such a mission impossible!
