Change is possible
To many people still do not have access to medical assistance, water and education: 80 million children cannot go to school; 1,4000 women die in childbirth every day; more than 1 billion people still lack access to safe drinking water.
Change is possible. Which is why Oxfam International and Ucodep are lauching, in Italy, the For all campaign, part of Oxfam International’s global for all campaign that has already collected more than a million signatures from across the world.
Why now? Because Italy will, in 2009, be hosting the G8 summit and will therefore have a crucial role in ensuring that the commitments made by the world’s most industrialised countries to fight poverty and increase public giving to development be upheld.
According to Oxfam International and Ucodep, the time has come to start asking that basic services like health care, water and education be accessible to all: experience tells us that aid, when it is well spent, can really make a difference.
