Italy hasn?t paid yet to the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) 20 million euros for 2005 ? denounces the charity Action Aid Italia – and it has committed itself in London to contribute to 2006 and 2007 balance with 130 million euros per year. The Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria was created to increase resources to fight three of the world?s most devastating diseases, and to direct those resources to areas of greatest need. GFATM?s Directive Council is risking bankruptcy for lack of appropriate political and financial support. In order to fight against Aids, tuberculosis and malaria GFATM needs at least 8 billion euros per year but the only country among great donors which has recently declared its support is Great Britain. Without the commitment of all countries it will be difficult for GFATM to have new funds for the struggle against AIDS for 2006 ? Action Aid points out. www.theglobalfund.org
