If You Look for Big Society Go to Naples

di Filippo Addarii

Hi Marco,

It’s funny reading about the attack’s to the goverment’s Big Society agenda in the UK after having spent almost a week in a real Big Society. This is what Naples is as there insn’t anything else than society.

Here there is no State. When I asked who we could invite from the local insitutions you recommend the Cardinal Sepe. He’s the only one who still have a reputation. Politicians are low key who don’t care about contents.

We could further indulge in self-flagelation but people have a laugh, shake shoulders and look for solutions. They are all social entrepreneurs. They must to.

Big society happens not thanks but despite government. Corporations don’t really play any role there. There aren’t many. If you exclude small businesses the rest is in the hands of bureaucracy and criminality. They share the cake.

Society has manged to survive so far. Can civil society find a solution?

This is waht we will find ou this here as we are planning to gether social innovators and entrepreurs from across the world to provide solutions for Europe.  Together we will launch a social innovation conmpetition and run an international  in September.

In few days we found a palace to host us, a catering to feed us and hotels to accomodate everybody. Natually, everything for free. Thsi is Naples, this is Big Society.
