An initiative of the Hungarian government established that from this year there is the possibility for work as a volunteer guided by mentors

Voluntary work is a wide spread practice in Western Europe and the USA for a long time but it is still a new employment form in Hungary.
This year 181 young people applied for unpaid traineeship to 117 institutions. Almost half of the applicants have secondary qualification and one-third is graduated, and 115 are women.
The programme is in an experimental phase and financed with 300 million HUF (approx. 1.071.000 ?) from the state budget. This amount covers the mentors´ monthly compensation of 15.000 HUF (approx. 55 ?). The trainees do not get remuneration, but they are entitled to receive certain allowances, e.g.: subsidies for training and meals, etc.
In case volunteers should move to another county in order to work, they are entitled to receive financial assistance. In this year, twenty trainees signed on in region other than their primary residence.
Among the host institutions and organisations, amongst others, there are theatres, libraries, community centres, civil organisations and national parks.
The programme is available for young people between 18-26 years who have never been employed earlier and who are students attending evening classes, for a period of up to one year.
