France: Renewable energy in Paris outskirts

It is now worth visiting social housing and the Montreuil Blue photovoltaic roof. A pilot project for saving energy is underway ...

di Zesst

In premises belonging to the Montreuil social housing, CLER, a non profit organisation -whose social purpose is renewable energy promotion – has succeeded in pioneering a huge photovoltaic system, thanks to the support of European, national and local funds. The project constitutes the largest integrated installation in France and provides an annual electricy production of over 20 000 kWp (equivalent to the annual consumption of 6 families). For CLER, renewable energy development must take territorial issues into account to create consensus-building among promoters, users and citizens, while ensuring sustainable and cheaper energy solutions for the community. With photovoltaic technologies, service charges will be reduced significantly. So go and see the Blue roof if you happen to be in Paris at the beginning of next july. Visits are organised. www.cler.org
