Next fall, the first French microinsurance center will open in Lyon. Its goal is to provide an affordable insurance to anybody starting his/her microbusiness.

Industrialized countries do need what has been achieved elsewhere in the world in terms of microinsurance. Making insurance available to microbusinesses seems to help in their viability and growth, according to recent data. This is the reason why the association “Entrepreneurs de la cité” is developing partnerships with insurers, big firms, support networks and financial institutions to deliver financial services and social protection to grassroots entrepreneurs.
In France, risks affecting property, health or the ability to work are often overlooked in emerging in small profit or non profit companies. Entrepreneurs tend generally to concentrate first on starting their own enterprise and coping with red tape. The Lyon initiative has the ambition to lower the cost of insurance products while making an aware campaign on how to prevent the downward slide into poverty and indebtedness.
Perhaps next step will be to make insurance available to all citizens regardless of socio-economic status …
