FRANCE: First European meeting for the non profit press

Paris will host on the next 21st September a special summit on the non profit press in Europe

The Economic and Social Council, usually busy with its consultative role on French legislation, will welcome European journalists dealing with the coverage of the Third sector in two weeks time. The event organized by its trade-union with the support of ETUC (European Confederation of the trade-unions) and the European economic and social Committee is supposed to give visibility to the « other press » existing in EU countries.
However, the last previsional seminar programme does not leave much room to the representatives of the European non profit press. The aim of the French proposal seems just to be an attempt to build a European network within the social economy.
To respond to the crisis of the daily printed press – due to a media revolution with the weight of the blogs and the emergence of Web 2.0 -, the French trade-union for the social press ? SPS ? seeks much more to target the 20 millions of French readers of 130 publishers for a renewed interest in the social debate. 2007 presidential elections are not so far away …
