France: few candidates mention the role of the social economy
The presidential campaign does not focus very much on social economy, neither on Europe
di Zesst
Although French citizens are anxious about the results of the elections and feel unconfortable with the absence of a vision for a new effective and social model, the public statements of the main presidential candidates do not tackle the topic of the social enterprises or more generally the potential of the social and non profit economy. It seems that this campaign election is much more running on the roadmap of the financing of new measures and on the credibility of a strong President, supposed to impose his/her views indoor and outdoor.
While on the left side, Marie-Georges Buffet for the communist party, Dominique Voynet for the Green, and Segolène Royal for the Socialist party have given their views on the social economy, the other candidates from the center and the right did not say a word about some 8% of the french GDP ? gross domestic product.
Europe is not any more a matter to gain new votes, except for its main detractors. Hence, the battle looks like more a ballet of personalities than the defense of social convictions. The people?s media involvement reinforces this impression which might create some delusion in the coming months … among the people itself.
