France: an other network for world social leaders
Created in late 2005, the Mont Blanc meetings organization aims to become an alternative to the Davos Forum
di Zesst
The french social economy is really moving forward thanks to the activism of its main pillars. The big five, namely Macif, Groupe Chèque déjeuner, Maif, Groupe Crédit Coopératif and Esfin-Ides, are everyday pushing for new initiatives to make social economy more visible and more linked to the economy of the whole planet.
For example, the Mont Blanc Meetings – to act as a springboard for concrete North/South projects -, is a two-years event which brings together representatives from labor unions, grassroot movements, international organizations, politicians and academics. Outside the meetings ? the first took place in Morzine in 2004 -, a permanent network ? some 30 bodies from all the continents – has been set up to foster link between participants, ensure follow up work, and circulate information on new projects.
The next Mont Blanc meetings will be held on 9-10 November 2007 in France. Their main topic will be the energy challenge within the framework of a shared sustainable development.
