The Thiel Foundation has announced that applications for the “20 under 20” fellowship program are open.
Created by venture capitalist
Peter Thiel, PayPal co-founder and one of the first investors in Facebook, the
Thiel Fellowship is looking for
20 young and extraordinary innovators under the age of 20 with bold ideas to transform the way we live.
“20 under 20” offers each Fellow grants of $100,000 and mentorship from a network of accomplished entrepreneurs, scientists, investors, thinkers and innovators.
On one condition: to benefit from the Fellowship, fellows must agree to leave their employment or school to focus on creating innovative start-ups, technologies and nonprofits.
Since its start in 2011, the Thiel Fellowship has been awarded to over 60 young people whose projects range in fields such as nuclear and alternative energy, mobile health, biotechnology, public health, education, finance and more.
While fellows are expected to work on their innovative ideas full-time, they determine their specific paths: this often means starting a company, but could also entail doing freelance work, developing a social movement, interning at another company, or pursuing independent research.
Interested applicants under the age of 20 have time until the 31st of December 2013 to apply.
