Conference on European Neighbourhood Policy

The European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) is one of the European Union’s newest external relations policies, aiming to bring Europe and its neighbours closer, to their mutual benefit and interest. It was conceived after the 2004 enlargement of the EU with 10 new member countries, in order to avoid creating new borders in Europe

Turn Off the Red Light : End Prostitution in Ireland

Irish civil society organisations, unions, NGOs and individuals have formed an alliance to raise public awareness about the harm caused by prostitution and sex trafficking and to lobby the government to introduce legislation to end the exploitation of women, men and children in the sex industry.

Integrating the Wider Europe after the Lisbon Treaty

The conference will open with political perspectives from MEPs on extending the European integration process eastward. A core aim for the conference is to identify appropriate strategies for EU policy-making in the future. It will be also discussed how the changes brought in by the Lisbon treaty to the functioning of the Union’s external relations will affect relations with the eastern neighbours.

Seminar on human rights dimensions of migration in Europe

This seminar is organized by the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Thomas Hammarberg, and the Turkish Chairmanship of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers. The aim is to exchange views on the most important discrepancies between European migration laws and practices and human rights standards, as well as on optimal ways to provide assistance to states in reflecting on and revisiting their migration policies. Representatives from Council of Europe member states, migration experts from intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, and academics will discuss topics such as the general human rights challenges of migration in Europe, the protection of unaccompanied migrant children and the measures to combat smuggling.

The 2011 edition of the forum will be held in Szeged, Hungary, during the Hungarian presidency of the European Union. Its central theme will be the question of Farmers’ Rights related to the conservation, sustainable use and development of agricultural biodiversity.
