The leaders of the European Union countries have reached an agreement on the realistic aims that can be set for the use of renewable energy. Official sources tell us that among the 27 EU countries ?the consensus? is that 20% of EU energy requirements be met with renewable energy sources by 2020. ?In the next days a task force will be launched from all the ministries? in favour of renewable energy, said the Romano Prodi at the end of the European Council in Brussels. ?There will be? ? he continued ? ?an extraordinary move towards renewable energy, for new industrial policies.? Prodi warns that ?otherwise Italy will remain out of new sectors and will suffer economic drawbacks.? The Italian premier warned that it is now time to ?reorganise the whole energetic system in Italy and to avoid Italy from being caught unawares.? In Brussels Prodi highlighted that the agreement reached for the EU ?is a great challenge for Italy in terms of research, innovation and industrial development. We are extremely behind in this sector and have lost the position we once held in terms of solar and wind energy.? Therefore, he adds, ?we must make an effort especially to enter into the last generation of solar energy, Europe is a peripheral player in this scene so its still not to late.? To conclude, continued the premier, ?we must organise a solar policy, and policies regarding the other renewables, for combustion systems and also for the so calles clean carbon, in other words reorganise the whole energy system.? That?s why we are beginning to be prepared now,? firtly with the task force that will inform ?all the ministries concerned?.
