A new app empowers citizens of Paris to clean up the streets, taking an active role in improving the quality of public spaces.
It’s called “DansMaRue” (which literally translates as: “In my street”) and it is very simple to use: Parisians take a picture of the anomaly they find and send it, together with the address it was taken at, into the system. The data goes straight to municipal employees, who send cleaning crews to the site.
According to the type and the geolocation of the anomaly, the closest service will receive the information and will plan the most adapted intervention.
Launched by the City of Paris last June , DansMaRue is inspired by the British project FixMyStreet, a website and an app enabling citizens to inform the government about problems in the streets of the UK.
The app can be downloaded for free on iPhones and Android smart phones. A web form can also be accessed at paris.fr.
Through leaving his e-mail address, the user will be informed of the treatment of the anomaly he has observed.
The system covers all the districts of Paris. As for public spaces that do not belong to the city (large non-municipal gardens, private esplanades..) DansMaRue records anomalies and conveys information to concerned managers on the basis of agreements.
Having an open source code, DansMaRue can be developed to other cities and towns in France. The organizers are also considering to have the app in English, in order for tourists and visitors to give their inputs too.
