Advent Calendar: Day 6

A way to enjoy the last bit of 2011

VitaEurope wants to keep you company until Christmas and remind you of all the beautiful things you can do to make the last bit of 2011 useful, fun, sustainable and unforgettable.

We have prepared for you a special advent calendar. Everyday we’ll suggest you a simple action to improve your life and the world around you.

Know what you eat

How often  does our lifestyle force us to eat fast and fat? Everyday many of us eat a sandwich in front of their PCs.  Most of the time we don’t even know where that sandwich comes from, or better, we know where we bought it, but what about the meat, the vegetables and the sauces that are inside of it? Well after all maybe you don’t want to know what’s inside that sandwich…

Here’s something you can’t really miss in 2011: good food.

We’re not just talking about the delicious food that, if you’re lucky enough, you’re going to eat at your mom’s Christmas dinner. What we’re talking about here is food that makes you feel healthier. Yep! That food actually exists and you can cook it yourself. That’s right: VitaEurope’s Advent Calendar wants you to wear the apron and cook!

There’s a bunch of people who claim they hate cooking, don’t listen to them and if you’re one of them, well, you shouldn’t trust your judgment. Nobody really hates cooking. You might feel a bit lazy and hate all the cleaning that comes afterwards but cooking is fun. Cooking is an act of love, so… start feeling the love, think about the dinner you want to make tonight and go grocery shopping.

If you’re not familiar with cooking, here’s a list of blogs where you can get some inspiration from.

Make sure you’re buying seasonal and local fruit and vegetables: they’re cheaper, fresher and this can help you reduce your carbon footprint.

Try to buy organic food ,it’s a bit more expensive but a good investment on your health.

Treat yourself with some music, your favorite film or TV series and start cooking. It’s a great way to relax and after you’ve eaten your delicious and healthy dinner, put the leftover in the fridge and take it with you tomorrow at work. Yours is going to be the best packet lunch in the office.
