A completely sustainable village: this is the challenge launched by Abardeen-based company Chap Homes which is planning to transform Kincluny, the area on the edge of the River Dee, into Scotland’s first sustainable village. The site will comprise 1,500 mixed tenure eco-homes and businesses, it will have a closed loop approach to waste and it will be self-sufficient in energy.

The Kincluny site is the biggest development project undertaken by Chap and Burr and the company will use innovative  eco n the development, although the real innovation lies in the approach to building a sustainable community.

As a matter of fact, according to managing director of Chap Homes, Bill Burr, the real  problem of all development is how to create community, for this reason he decided to make sure that the physical development is matched by community development.

Chap is investing 400 million Pounds in the project but it will also donate one thousand Pounds to a community fund for each house it builds, creating a endowment of more than one million Pounds. The trust will manage the fund and it will use it to set up self-sustainable businesses and social enterprises within the village.
