Albania: Rewarding giving

Philanthropy as a vehicle for constructive and sustainable change. It is on the lines of this principle that Partners Albania, with the support of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, is launching a Philanthropy Award open to all social actors who have contributed to developing public good in Albania.

Any local or foreign organisation or individual can be nominated for the prize, which is divided into three levels: national, local and individual.

Partners Albania, Center for Change and Conflict Management is an Albanian NGO and a member of Partners for Democratic Change International, a global network of 19 Centers. Founded in 2001, it works to support the development of civil society and active citizenship as the basis for a sustainable social, economic and cultural development of the country.

The aim of the Philanthropy Award 2011 is to keep this old and valuable tradition alive by expressing our gratitude to individuals, families and businesses who contribute to improving the quality of life in our society. The appreciation and stimulation of this activity is important considering the human and economic dimension it represents.

Philanthropy is known as the practice of application of assets: knowledge, passion and wealth, to bring about constructive and sustainable change. In Albania, as in many other countries philanthropic activity has taken various forms depending on the society development needs. Philanthropy is a private initiative of individuals, families or businesses who have the means, time and motivation to support an issue or need which contributes toward a common social good. 

Nominations will be reviewed by a representative panel of civil society sector, media and institutions supporting the economic and social development in Albania.

Awards will be announced at a public event Partners Albania will organize in November 2011.
