Solutions to fight pollution in your city

di Staff

Do you feel like your city is among the most polluted in Europe ? Well, do not bend your head, hold it tight, apparently there’s a solution to it and the European City Ranking goal is to show that these solutions are possible.

The ranking is part of the Soot-free for the Climate! Campaign, developed by German environmental and consumer associations NABU, BUND, VCD and explores the efforts made to reduce particulate matter (PM10) and soot, or black carbon but most measures also help reduce other air pollutants, and can therefore serve as general examples for good air quality policy.

Western European capitals, cities with high air pollution levels and cities which were expected to provide good examples were selected. In total, over 20 municipalities received a detailed questionnaire; 14 cities provided answers and 17 cities have been ranked, in order to provide an adequate overview of the type of measures currently being taken in Europe to improve air quality.

The aim of the project is to select relevant measures and evaluate whether they were planned and carried out in a meaningful and ambitious way. Feedback from cities and from other actors on the results of the project are welcome, so learn more about it and speak up, because you probably live in one of those cities!
