Today it is World Water Day, an initiative that was started in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro. In that occasion the UN General Assembly denominated March 22 of each year as the World Day for Water.
States are invited to devolve this day to the implementation of UN recommendations and to organize activities to raise awareness about water conservation. Today over a thousand representatives from more than 30 organizations gathered together in South Africa to discuss this year’s theme: “Water for cities”.
