Civil Media signs memorandum of cooperation with the Broadcasting Council

Last week, the two parties agreed in joining their forces to protect education and development of electronic media, copyrights, freedom of speech. A strengthened cooperation of the Council with the civil sector was also foreseen.

The Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Macedonia and Civil Media signed last week a Memorandum of Cooperation in the area of public awareness strengthening, education and development of electronic media, copyrights and freedom of speech. The Memorandum also provides for strengthened cooperation of the Council with the civil sector in the country.

Xhabir M. Derala, Civil NGO President, said that it was the highest time to formalize the long cooperation with the Council, in order to open new possibilities for implementation of projects in the areas for freedom of media and freedom of speech.

„We face serious challenges and dynamic future, corresponding to the dynamic of media development in Macedonia and the world. Our cooperation with the regulatory body also provides the opportunity to strengthen social resources for defence and strengthening of freedom of speech”, Derala said.

Zoran Stefanovski, the Chairman of the Broadcasting Council, added that the Council has always maintained direct contacts with the general public and intends to keep with that interaction.

„The cooperation with CIVIL MEDIA will contribute to improved communication with the general public. The broadcasting sphere is going through an important process of digitalization and convergence of media, and this cooperation will allow us to get a direct input from the citizens in terms of design of the future media landscape in the country”, Stefanovski said.

The signatories accepted the obligation to start joint activities as soon as possible.

CIVIL MEDIA – Centre for Development of Audio-Visual Media Services, Copyright Protection and Freedom of Speech is a part of the CIVIL – Freedom Centre, organization established in 1999, prominent for its many activities in the field of public advocacy.
