–         Where are you based?  Luxembourg

–         What are you called?  Banque de Luxembourg

–         What are you doing and why? On the 9th October we will organize the “Responsible leadership in times of change symposium” thus giving CEOs and active trustees of leading European foundations an opportunity to share experiences, learn from each other and lay the groundwork for effective solutions in the aftermath of the financial crisis.

–         Do you have a website/email?  For general information about our activities: www.banquedeluxembourg.com; for information about the symposium and philanthropy in Luxembourg: www.philanthropie.lu

–         What makes you so special?  We offer wealth management solutions for private and institutional investors in Europe and in our home country of Luxembourg. Philanthropy advisory services are an extension of our commitment to be at our clients’ sides in all their projects and at every stage of their lives. Our asset management expertise suits foundations seeking long-term performance consistency and protection in the management of their capital and endowments. We also offer a full range of special-purpose social finance vehicles, which reflect the investment fund expertise of the Luxembourg financial centre.

Our longstanding commitment to the community and socially responsible projects in Luxembourg underpins the decisive role we have played in promoting the development of philanthropy, social entrepreneurship and social finance in the country.

The turning point

–         How did you start?  As a sponsor of the Luxembourg cultural and social scene, but also while being questioned by clients who wished to commit themselves to a philanthropic project, we were confronted with the fact that Luxembourg did not provide an optimal legal and fiscal framework to boost the commitment of donors and their impact on beneficiaries. In April 2008, we organised a first colloquium “Seizing the opportunity of philanthropy in Luxembourg”, thus promoting the development of this sector in Luxembourg.

–         Who is your target?  This year’s symposium will give CEOs and active trustees of European foundations the opportunity to discuss the impact of the financial and economic crisis on their activities. We will focus in particular on three main areas of leadership responsibility: governance, financial management and impact.

The challenge

–         A proud moment?  We hope that the actions we take to promote philanthropy are contributing to encourage charitable giving in Luxembourg and abroad. We are especially proud that this year’s initiative has been acknowledged by some 200 participants coming from some 25 different countries.
