According to the Philanthropy Research in Macedonia Report by CIRa and BSC Estek for the USAID compiled in 2006, 10% of the sampled Macedonian population reported volunteering in NGOs, which are an important component of the Macedonian civil society. More precise, yet a bit older figures are delivered by the MCIC‘s Report (2005): there is a total of 31,394 volunteers among the 858 organisations that submitted complete data, that is: 37 volunteers per association (on average). Moreover, 657 organisations of the 858 registered in the Directory of the Civic Organisations, that is the 76.57%, are completely voluntary organisations. Out of the 858 registered organizations that took part in the survey, the 13.40% of them have no volunteers, the 35.5% have between 1 and 10 volunteers, and the 22.03% between 11 and 20%; the 10.85% have more than 50 employees (2003 data).
