Turning the tables

On 21 April 2009, the Icelandic Parliament passed a national bill banning strip clubs and paying for sex. The new act provides for punishment in the form of a fine of up to two years in prison if a person is convicted of paying for prostitution. Iceland joins Sweden and Norway’s lead which have passed similar laws, considering prostitution a form of violence against women, where the crime consists in the customer paying for sex, not in the prostitute selling sexual services. www.vitaeurope.org
