In 2006 more than 60% of the Swiss population aged between 15 and 80 donated to charity. More than 50% of donors gave up to 300 Swiss francs (200 euros) a year while 10% gave more than 1000 Swiss francs (680 euros). The most generous of the cantons? The German Swiss, who not only donated more but more actively.
Categories of donors in comparison to the whole Swiss population (15-80 years old onwards)
–31.6% are donors who do not volunteer
–20.4% are donors involved in informal volunteering
–12.9% are donors involved in organized volunteer work
Ages and gender of donors and percentages
–15-19 years old: 53.5% women, 41% men
–20-39 years old: 75.5% women, 70.6% men
–40-64 years old: 82.2% women, 77.9% men
–65-79 years old: 81.3% women, 82.4% men
–80 years onwards: 73.6% women, 87.4% men
As the data show, women result being more generous than men in the category from 15 to 64 years old, while it is the opposite for those aged from 65 to 80 years old.

–Invalid people and aid: 36.1%
–Poor people of the Third World, handicapped people, sick people: 35.4%
–Poorness in Switzerland: 32.3%
–Nature and development: 27.8%
–Cases of calamity: 24.6%
–Children and teenagers:21.1%
–Culture and sport: 16.8%
–Church or religious associations: 13.1%
–Old people: 8.9%
–Political parties: 2.3%
–Other: 9.4%
Reasons to donate and percentage
–For personal pleasure: 86.9% women and 81.5% men
–To do things with others: 76.6% women, 72.4% for men
–To help other people: 75.6% for women, 61.5% for men
–To rub elbows with people: 63.9% for women, 59.3% for men
–To share knowledge and experience: 66% for women, 55.3% for men
–To take responsibilities and make decisions: 52.4% for women, 52% for men
–To obtain a recognition: 27.2% for women, 26.6% for men
–To give a contribute in improving the image of donors: 25.8% for women, 24.7% for men
–For religious values: 33.5% for women, 20.7% for men
–To try to solve problems: 18.5% for women, 17.6% for men
–To improve his/her own professional career: 14.9% for women, 12.3% for men
