Weddings, parties and christenings: a chance to give to charity

Spanish NGOs have launched a summer fashion: the charitable party.

Intermòn Oxfam (Oxfam International’s Spanish branch) has launched its very own wedding list, where instead of contributing to the newly wed’s honeymoon, friends and family can buy school books, water deposits, seeds or chickens for the world’s poor. Due to the tremendous success of the campaign, the NGO has now extended the practice to all kinds of celebrations. So, if you are undecided what to give your associates as a company gift next Christmas, keep in mind the three little pigs Intermòn Oxfam vouches to send to a Nicaraguan family.

Madrid based organisation Semilla (seed) has instead launched a sustainable catering programme, guaranteeing 100% organic and fair-trade products in the creation of their banquets. Whether you want to go for the traditional selection of Spanish hams, exotic dishes of coconut and curry or banana with avocado and shrimps, Semilla ensures an ethical feast. The organisation also offers teaching programmes, including cooking and professional silver service training programmes.

Till death do us part…

Giving something back to the community through “good” festivities is within anyone’s reach, but to leave a lasting mark why not consider leaving your legacy to a good cause? The practice, that in countries like the UK, HollandFrance is increasingly common, in Spain has only recently taken off.
