UK civil society is today a major employer: its paid workforce headcount is 1.367m people, the 6.4% of the country workforce. Charities alone employ 611,000 people:
– 39% have a part-time job;
– 61% have full-time job;
– 69% are women;
– 31% are men;
– 32% are based in either London or the South East, Wales accounts for 3% of the workforce and Ireland for 2%;
– 1/3 of employees have a degree level qualification;
– 2/3 of employees are educated to A-levels and above.
