Gorilla in the greenhouse: a children’s guide to eco activism

It’s becoming clear that if anyone can save the world from global warming and pollution, it’s today’s kids. The new web series “Gorilla in the Greenhouse” shows kids how to make real change in the real world.

Designed and animated by FreeRange Studios and presented by SustainLane, “Gorilla in the Greenhouse” shows actionable steps that kids can take to become eco-activists. It is an action-packed animated web show that inspires kids to take real-world steps towards a healthier environment. The show is set in a magical greenhouse in San Francisco, featuring a visionary green gorilla and four kids who use their imagination, their network and their music to tackle the environmental challenges facing their generation.

The pilot episode, entitled “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch,” follows the Greenhouse Gang – four kids and KJ, the Green Gorilla – as they overcome a demented plot by Dr. Morlon Hufflebot to create an island of plastic bags in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Future episodes, which will be launched beginning summer of 2008, will follow the Greenhouse Gang through adventures exploring mountaintop removal, sustainable food consumption, global warming, deforestation, and alternative energy.

The show encourages kids to be part of the team that will save the world. The website provides classroom curriculum, clips of other kids taking creative actions to address waste and plastic bag use, and a toolkit to help other kids do the same.
