The Bali Summit

Civil society's strategy to save the planet

di Vita Sgardello

More than 15,000 delegates from 189 countries have met on the Indonesian island in December 2007 to negotiate the terms and conditions of post Kyoto framework.

Bali has achieved at least one important victory: Australia, one of the worst per capita carbon polluters in the world, has finally ratified the Kyoto protocol. The US is now the only developed nation that refuses to sign on to the agreement that in 1997 bound 36 rich countries to reducing their CO2 emissions by 5.2% between 2005 and 2012.

But what does civil society have to say about the issue?
