Aardman Animation, the award-winning creators of Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit, has created a new series of animations to raise awareness of the prejudices faced by disabled people.

The animations, commissioned by the Leonard Cheshire Disability charity, will feature in an advert campaign called ?Creature Discomforts? which will include television adverts, radio adverts, and posters and will run until January 2008. The adverts will portray six disabled animal characters, modelled from clay, including a stick insect with a walking stick, a tortoise on crutches, and a sausage dog in a wheelchair. All of the characters? voices have been provided by disabled people.

Alex Mihaly, a wheelchair-user from Chesterfield and the voice of Flash the sausage dog said ?I?d just like people to realise that we are real people? We are not brain-dead just because we are disabled.?

The campaign was inspired by ?Creature Comforts? ? a popular animated television series in the UK. Bryan Dutton, director general of Leonard Cheshire Disability, said: ?Creature Comforts is well known and much loved for its ability to bring home messages in a simple, everyday way. Our Creature Discomforts campaign builds on this, making a serious point with humour.?
