Uk: New website promotes social networking for good
Horsesmouth aims to put people in touch with others and to share solutions to social problems
To put people in touch with others who have faced a similar situation to enable them to share experiences, anecdotes and solutions. This is the aim of a new website – horsesmouth.co.uk – to be launched in autumn which uses the latest web technology to allow secure, private mentor-mentee chatting.
The Guardian has defined the website an instrument for "the wee generation" comparing it to social networking website for the "me" generation such as MySpace and Facebook.
On the website, that is funded by two charities, the Edge and V, mentors can sign up for a certain number of hours every week to ensure they will not be overwhelmed by demands on their time. They will also be able to build up their own library of web resources and inspiring books, which mentees can access. To guarantee they keep their mettle up, mentors will be rated by their mentees.
