Spain: corporate social responsability

The Spanish Administration will promote that all the enterprises report on a regular basis about those activities or products of theirs which may have a significant influence on the environment.

di Ges

All enterprises will report on products which may affect the environment. This is a result of an amendment recently introduced to a bill concerning the access to information and public participation which is being discussed in the Spanish Parliament. This amendment, which was agreed between all political forces, aims to promote transparency in the information policies of all Spanish enterprises in this field, that is, not only by those which the law requires to do so like cement works, chemical industries, etc. This provision of information is included in the Aarhus international agreement and is thought it can contribute to increase public trust in these enterprises. The bill foresees fines up to 6.000 ?/day which can be imposed to enterprises which do not comply with their duty to inform public authorities about environmental matters. The text also establishes that any person believing that an enterprise has contravened this law can lodge an appeal before the Administration. In addition, it also regulates popular action in favour of NGOs and particulars defending the environment on a non-profit basis. www.ecodes.org
