In the framework of the Spanish plan for development aid, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haití, República Dominicana, Paraguay, Bolivia, Perú and Ecuador, together with other 13 countries, are considered as a priority by the Spanish government and will receive 70% of the official development aid. In 2006, this will amount to 613 million ?, which are considered an historical record. This was stated by Leire Pajín, Home Secretary for International Cooperation, who added that the main aim of Spanish development aid in Latin America is combating poverty and that the main challenges in this region are inequality and the institutional consolidation. Also in the framework of this Spanish plan for development aid, a second group of countries are considered worthy of ?special attention?. These are countries where it is necessary to prevent conflicts or which are weak in terms of human rights and the politic system. More information on: www.mae.es/es/Home
