Italy: Unicef and Fifa “united for children”

Unicef and Fifa (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) launch a programme of initiatives for the 2006 Football World Cup to show how sport can create self confidence and promote peace. A spot, with the participation of the Unicef Team, made by MTV International for Unicef has been distributed to televisions. The team is made by 15 worldwide famous football players who will be playing at the World Cup, among whom David Beckam and Francesco Totti, both of them Unicef Goodwill Ambassadors. The spot will be broadcasted both in stadiums during each match of the World Cup and by various national and international television channels. Among these 15 champions of the ?Unicef team? of the World Championship we can mention: David Beckam (England), Thierry Henry (France), Tim Howard (USA) and Rafael Marquez (Mexico). Unicef will put online on its international website (www.unicef.org) the profiles of the ?Unicef team? players and also inteviews to children, telling stories from the football pitch and showing the positive impact that football has had on their lives. www.unicef.org
