Italy: BCC and Caritas launch micro credit
Loans will be given thanks to Guarantee Fund that will grow through donations

On 18th November 2005 at the headquarters of the Banca del Centroveneto in Longare (Vicenza) the convention between the Association Diakonia Onlus, operational branch of the Caritas Vicentina and the Banche di Credito Cooperativo/Casse Rurali e Artigiane of the Vicenza province was signed, which will launch the Ethic-Social Micro credit project, designed to help people with temporary financial problems.
Loans will be given thanks to a Guarantee Fund that will grow through donations, both from institutions and individuals. The initial amount of the fund is about 130 thousand euros, allocated by the Caritas of the Diocese (30 thousand euros), the BCC of the province (100 thousand euros), the municipality of Santorso (2 thousand euros) and by a private individual.
